G2 (Moderate) watch issued for 17, 18, and 19 May

A G2 (Moderate) Watch has been issued for 17, 18, and 19 May due to a combination of coronal hole activity and the potential influence of the 13 May CME. While the likelihood of the CME impacting Earth has somewhat diminished, the potential still exists for the 17th. However, the possibility of increased activity for 18 and 19 May remains likely as this enhancement is associated with a returning coronal hole that produced G2 level storming the last time it rotated across the Earth-facing side of the Sun.

G1 and G2 Geomagnetic Storm Watches have been issued for 18 -20 May due to coronal hole high speed stream effects. G1 (Minor) conditions are likely late on 18 May as the high speed stream begins to interact with Earth's magnetic field. An increase to G2 (Moderate) conditions is anticipated on 19 May as the main body of the coronal hole moves through, followed by a decrease to G1 conditions as effects begin to subside.

G3 Watch: 7 through 9 September, 2017 due to CME Effects

The G3 (Strong) geomagnetic storm watch for the 7 September UTC-day remains in effect due to coronal mass ejection (CME) arrival and effects from the 4 September CME. Additionally, a G3 Watch is now in effect for the 8 and 9 September UTC-days in anticipation of the arrival of another CME associated with the X9.3 flare (R3-Strong radio blackout) on 6 September at 1202 UTC (0802 ET). Analysis indicates likely CME arrival late on 8 September into early 9 September. Keep checking our SWPC website for updates to the forecast.
